1. What are the eligibility requirements for a Student Visa?
  • You must be enrolled in a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
  • You must meet the English language proficiency requirements.
  • You must have adequate health insurance.
  • You must have sufficient funds to cover tuition fees, travel expenses, and living costs.
  • You must meet health and character requirements.
2. Do I need to provide evidence of English language proficiency?
Yes, – Acceptable tests include IELTS,and PTE Academic.
3. What is the Genuine Student Test (GST) requirement?
The GST requirement is an integrity measure to ensure the student visa program is used as intended and not as a way for international students to maintain ongoing residency in Australia. You need to provide a personal statement addressing your intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
4. Can I work while studying on a Student Visa?
Yes, you can work up to 40 hours per fortnight during the study period and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks.
5. Can my family members come with me on a Student Visa?
Yes, you can include your spouse/partner and dependent children in your application. They will also be allowed to work limited hours.
6. Can I stay in Australia after my course ends?
Yes, you may be eligible for a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) which allows you to stay and work in Australia temporarily after you finish your studies.
7. How can I transition from a Student Visa to a Permanent Residency?
There are several pathways to permanent residency, including the Skilled Migration Program. You may need to gain relevant work experience and meet other criteria to apply.
